Calculating consumption
Litres per 100 km equals fuel litres divided by kilometres, times 100. A fill-up calculation is most meaningful when filling under comparable conditions and recording the distance.
l/100 km, km/l and MPG
l/100 km measures fuel per distance; lower means mathematically less fuel. km/l and MPG measure distance per fuel. US MPG uses a US gallon and UK MPG an Imperial gallon.
Trip, fuel and range
Trip cost is fuel required times your price. Fuel required is distance times l/100 km divided by 100. Range is fuel divided by l/100 km times 100 and remains an estimate.
Commutes and variation
Commutes assume a return trip each day; monthly cost is annual cost divided by 12. Traffic, weather, load, driving style and vehicle condition affect real consumption.
